Ian Wright expects more from Arsenal’s frontmen

Arsenal’s league form since the beginning of the 2020/21 season is quite worrying and club legend Ian Wright has a say on it.

While Arsenal’s domestic performances have been extremely good, the league performances were contrarily bad as typical. The North London-based club currently standing at the 11th position in the table being played 8 matches haven’t quite shown the desire to compete for the league title as habitual as every other season. During the time when every Gunner longed for deliverance, Aubameyang stepped up and proved to everybody that he is the right one to do so whilst turning out to be the talking point for this season’s poor run.

Arsenal have netted just 9 times so far standing just above Wolves and the bottom four teams in the league. The club’s goal drought for the 2020/21 league season has made critics pinpoint the Gabon International for his lack of desire. Scoring only twice while one coming off a penalty, Aubameyang has only been just another forward in the league. Contrarily speaking, questions can be asked on his counterpart’s aid too. Alexandre Lacazette, being the only senior companion for Auba on the offensive side hasn’t performed as required to lift the burden from Auba’s shoulders. Being scored only three goals from seven appearances this season, the frontmen’s contributions for his side were minimal.

Things being that way, club legend Ian Wright has a view on their current performances. He particularly talked about the prematch warm-up before their game against Manchester United.

“What I saw the other day was Arsenal’s warm-up before the Manchester United game- there was a shooting session down in the corner. We saw nine shots from the main characters- Aubameyang, Lacazette, of all of them- and every single one of them missed. Even though we beat Manchester United, it was telling.”

“If I’m being honest, there are not many chances being created, which is why I feel so unfortunate for Auba. It’s just a coincidence that he’s signed his contract at this time and then the suits say: ‘It’s because he’s signed his contract, he’s clocked off’. We’re not creating chances!”

“We’re not creating chances but I do not like seeing in a warm-up shooting session, people missing the target and sloppy shots. All those things make you look into the team and what’s going on.”

Looking at this situation, one may even intimidate to land Ian Wright himself as the striking coach at the Emirates who is more than qualified for the post too, once being the club’s all-time goal scorer before Thierry Henry overtook him.
