Arsenal could make waves in the transfer market with a bold move for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, a player whose relentless energy and chaos-causing runs have turned heads across the Premier League.
It is one of the worst-kept secrets in football that Arsenal are in the market for a new striker to ease the pressure on existing forwards. In the wake of this, former Gunners striker Jeremie Aliadiere has urged manager Mikel Arteta and the board to put in a bid for Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez.
Speaking to Football365, Aliadiere shared his thoughts on the current crop of players at Arsenal’s disposal. The Frenchman’s main concern was that none of the existing players possess qualities that can be attributed to what is considered a complete striker. He said,
“Havertz is not a natural number nine. He’s doing a fantastic job, but over a full season with the Premier League and the Champions League demands, Jesus could be the answer.
“Jesus isn’t a typical number nine either. He likes to drop deep and get involved in the build-up, but Arsenal lack a striker who consistently runs in behind and stretches defences. The way Arsenal play, focusing on wide areas with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, might benefit from a more traditional forward.”
While Aliadiere has made some great points, it remains to be seen if Arteta and the board move quickly to address the existing concerns.
Darwin Nunez Arsenal transfer – Arteta has a co-sign
A tall, pacey and aggressive player, Nunez has helped Liverpool significantly since joining the club. Although the main focus of their attack is still Mohamed Salah, having players like Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz has helped their attack maintain a sense of unpredictability.
Aliadiere backed Nunez to be a potential hit for Arsenal should they sign him, saying,
“I am a massive fan of Darwin Nunez. I love his work ethic, his runs, his determination. He stretches defences and creates chaos, even if he doesn’t score every chance. The drama he causes is worth everything.
“He’s the type of player who constantly bothers defenders and helps the team in ways that don’t always show up in the stats. I’d love to see him at Arsenal.”
