The Gunners have set their sights on Brighton’s striker as a potential replacement for Eddie Nketiah. The player they want to bring into their squad is Brighton forward Joao Pedro, as they explore options to replace Nketiah, who is close to joining Marseille.

The 22-year-old Brazilian striker is nonetheless impressive after a €34.2 million transfer from Watford to Brighton last summer. Pedro scored 20 goals and 3 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

What makes Pedro exclusive is that even though he primarily plays as a striker, he is versatile enough to play in a deeper role or on the wing. Now this put him on Arteta’s radar, as it is well known that versatility is a trait that Arteta looks for in his new recruits.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are “taking interest” in Pedro as Nketiah “nears an exit.”

Nketiah has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Marseille, but a gap in valuation remains between the clubs. Despite his desire for regular first-team action, Arsenal are determined to sell Nketiah only at the right price.

With Arsenal’s deal for Mikel Merino nearly finalized, the focus has shifted to finding a replacement for Nketiah. Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar have discussed the possibility of signing Pedro. The 22-year-old fits all the criteria: he is young, has high potential, and is a good character fit. Most importantly, he is expected to integrate well with his compatriots Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli.

The pressing question is whether the North London Giants will be able to secure a striker who the Seagulls value. Will Brighton allow it? Even if Chairman Tony Bloom agrees, he is likely to demand a substantial fee. This might be difficult, especially since Arsenal have already spent approximately £70 million on David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori and are still active in the transfer market, prioritizing the addition of a new central midfielder, winger, and a striker.
