Liverpool this season has continued to deploy their 4-3-3 formation in mastery of their pressing game and this seems to be providing the results they want. No loss so far in the Premier League is a sign that their tactics and formation has ostensibly been working in their favor and their less concession of goals proves their back-line has been doing a good work compared to previous seasons.
The Jurgen Klopp philosophy demands that players show courage and players that have really shown this are part of the Liverpool back-line: Trent Arnold and Joe Gomez. Trent Alexander-Arnold the 19 year old English player made a name for himself after his display against PSG in the Champions League last season. And he seems to have cemented his place at the right back after that display.
The Liverpool gaffer, often rotated him with Joe Gomez last season in that right back position but Trent has become more of a perfect choice for that position, his speed, ability to read the game and even his prowess at display when he moves forward adds a lot to the back 4 of the Liverpool team and it’s not surprising he’s started in more games for the REDS this season.
Joe Gomez is also a good defender for the Liverpool team. For a 21 year old who joined Liverpool in 2015 from Charlton Athletic, Joe Gomez as an English footballer has often shown good glimpses of the typical hunger sought after by coaches in a defender. As a defender his versatility has been noticed hence his deployment to the right back position at times or even his natural center back position.
JOE GOMEZ: THE JOURNEY
Both players are very good at their defensive work and are a delight to watch and even provide much disturbance to the attackers of the opposition side. But the question remains; who should start against Arsenal.
Arsenal fans will prefer to have a lesser of the two evils. They will want someone who won’t be much of a burden to the right midfielder or right attacking player and wont be a threat to the left back going forward. But Liverpool fans will definitely love one who will be able to stand firm against the Arsenal attack and provide width and forte against the Arsenal defense.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is very good at the back and the English 19 year old is carving a niche for himself in that department, just like Joe Gomez who is also great at the back but Trent adds more power to Liverpool team in attack and from that point Trent Alexander-Arnold ostensibly should get the nod in the right back position against the Arsenal.
