Kai Havertz could be your FPL savior

Kai-Havertz-FPL

No, this is not a spoof article. It’s actually time for all FPL aficionados to consider bringing Arsenal star Kai Havertz into the team. Priced at £8 million, the German might not be a cheap forward in the game, but if he performs to potential, he could turn out to be a bargain. Havertz is just behind Haaland, Watkins, and Isak in terms of valuation on the game.

Havertz has become a scapegoat for the teams he plays. When he plays well, no one talks about him, but everyone is quick to pounce when he fails. It’s difficult being the ex-Chelsea man, but what he has in Mikel Arteta is a manager who trusts him. The Spaniard used the 25-year-old to good effect last season.

Initially being deployed as an #8 in midfield, Havertz took up the second striker-like role in the attacks. However, things took a turn for the better once Arteta started deploying the German as a number nine with his back to goal but also tasked him with dropping deep or moving to the left to create space for the runners.

Havertz scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League last season. Further inspection tells you that 15 out of these 20 goal contributions came in the last 14 matches of the season, which coincided with Arteta permanently shifting him to the number nine role.

Arteta has opted to use Havertz in both the #8 role as a shadow striker and the #9 role in pre-season, with the German scoring twice and assisting twice in less than 140 minutes of football. He is nailed down to start for Arsenal against Wolves in the first matchweek, and the only suspense is in which role. His minutes look nailed based on his involvements in the pre-season.

A differential

Owned by 12.8% on the game, he could become a differential in your FPL squad. One thing that could stop players from picking him though is the fact that Arsenal don’t have favorable fixtures in the first seven game weeks. With Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Manchester City to face in the first seven games, Havertz has always been good in high-stakes games along his career, and you can take advantage of it.

In the long term, however, the German is bound to get a favorable run of fixtures, which will definitely help in terms of getting points. At 25, Havertz is also at an age where he understands his game much better than he used to, and all this should help in what we think is going to be his most productive season yet.

Snap up Havertz when you still have the chance. With his ceiling, he could hit unparalleled heights this season, and it’s time to take a punt and sign him up right away.
