While I’ve been writing for a Ramsey replacement since the dawn of his transfer news, Arsenal are busy scanning a Mustafi-esque replacement. Funny, Isn’t it? Arsenal are seeking to buy a Mustafi with different nationality and physicality.
That’s it. The only difference between Mustafi, whom we are seeking to sell to AC Milan and Kostas Manolas is their nationality and the club they play for. Rest all is square one amongst them.
As per the reports, Arsenal are planning to buy the Roma centre-back who has a release clause of £32 million attached along. The Greece international and colleague of our Greek hercules Sokratis, Manolas is in Arsenal’s list A of transfer book.
The Greek international has declined a contract extension with his Seria A club following the exit of Roma legend Daniele De Rossi, the loyal servant of Roma from last 18 years. Reports are that his departure has led to a haywire situation because of the way De Rossi has been treated henceforth.
With advances from Arsenal and Kuventus, Manolas has already stepped one foot out of the door and it’s only a matter of time that the 27-year-old may don at Emirates; one thing that I don’t want to pan out.
The stats of Manolas are no less than Mustafi-like and so is the situation of the club. Arsenal had made a desperate move for Mustafi back in 2015 and signed the centre-back from Valencia shouldering him with huge expectation only to see him falter incessantly.
The Manolas situation is alike, a desperate move to find a strong centre-back who can solve the ageing problem in our defence. Kostas, however, has proven to be a protagonist for Roma this season but English Premier League is all different and I personally feel he is not made for this competitive environment.
Rest, the baton is with Arsenal’s board!
