Arsenal are reigniting their pursuit of Lois Openda, the 24-year-old could be the long-term solution to the Gunners attacking ambitions.
Arsenal are in the market for a marquee striker signing for the last few windows now. To get their business started, the Gunners reportedly submitted a £55m bid for RB Leipzig striker Lois Openda. However, as per reports from Arsenal Fanatics News, the German outfit rejected the bid straight away.
The north Londoners have shown interest in Openda for a couple of windows now and have previously stated the asking price in the region of £75m. The Gunners are also interested in the Belgian’s strike-partner Benjamin Sesko, but the player has reportedly turned down a move to the Emirates Stadium.
This opened the door for Arsenal to submit bids for Openda, but it seems like Leipzig will not part with their player so easily. They are also in the middle of the season and would not prefer losing one of their main goal scorers in the winter window as it would render them uncompetitive for the remainder of the campaign.
Lois Openda performances this season
A mainstay in the RB Leipzig lineup under manager Marco Rose, Lois Openda is a key player in terms of output in the final third. His quickness and presence of mind allows him to make smart runs and get into good positions where he can score from or even pick out a teammate.
So far this season, Openda has made 13 appearances for Leipzig in the Bundesliga, scoring five and assisting five goals. He has also scored one goal and provided two assists in the UEFA Champions League, as well as three goals in two DFB-Pokal games.
His 16 goal contributions make him the highest contributor in the German side’s squad and no team would want to lose such a player, especially in a cut-price deal.
