Barcelona captain and veteran player, Lionel Messi has urged the Spanish club to sign the 33-year-old Arsenal left-back, Nacho Monreal. Arsenal’s experienced candidate has been of interest lately to the Catalan striker.
Despite his age, Nacho Monreal is being viewed as a second fiddle for Jordi Alba who recently extended his contract with the club until 2024. Not a long-term replacement, Nacho Monreal if signed, will help the Camp Nou champs for an year or so.
It has been long since Nacho Monreal was linked of a move away from London but the Gunners were unable to pen down a deal with any other club in January transfer window, eventually raising the chances and probabilities of Monreal leaving this summer, priority being Barcelona.
At present, Barcelona does not have a suitable replacement for Jordi Alba at the left-back position, albeit the presence of academy graduate Juan Miranda who has been in vain to gain Ernesto Valverde‘s confidence. Even so, that he could return back to his former club Sevilla at the end of this season.
Despite Monreal’s longing age, the Spanish is a prime candidate for being present in the bench as an alternative to Jordi Alba alongside being an useless asset for the Londoners, anymore.
So, if Arsenal are to receive the appropriate sum and Barcelona are willing to suffice the needs of their everlasting star Lionel Messi, a move to Blaugrana for the Spaniard will not be a difficult or a hurdle-prone move; rather a seamless and mutually understood one.
