After five memorable years at Old Trafford, Juan Mata’s Trafford stay is coming to an end. He is set to leave the club for free in the summer and will be reunited with Unai Emery’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, according to talksports host Adrian Durham.
The Spaniard who scored a free kick in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Juventus, failed to hold to a regular starting place under Jose Mourinho.
Presenting the show alongside Jason Cundy, Durham said: “I thought we were going to do a Juan Mata love-in right.
“I thought we were doing an appreciation hour for Juan Mata. After I said this, just a couple of minutes ago, just had a message going; ‘He’s going to Arsenal on a free’.
“We can’t do this anymore, if he’s going to Arsenal. We all love him now, but who is going to love him when he goes to Arsenal?
“He’s going to be going to Arsenal on a free! He was with [Unai] Emery on a free wasn’t he, so he’s going to Arsenal on a free because he is out of contract in the summer.”
Unai Emery has worked with Juan Mata at La Liga side Valencia from 2008 to 2011 and will be keen to link back up with Mata if he becomes available on a free transfer at the end of season.
