Arsenal are looking to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino as they look to add technical elegance to the midfield going into the upcoming campaign.
The Gunners have been vying a move for the Spanish midfielder for a while now, and they fortified their interests to land his signatures following the conclusion of this summer’s European Championships. Merino helped Spain to the EURO 2024 triumph, and he will essentially be looking to have a similar impact at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Merino on verge of Arsenal move
The player was subject to links with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona before Arsenal joined the race to his services. And when Mikel calls Mikel, Mikel is convinced, and Arsenal are on the verge of signing Mikel Merino.
Edu & his team already have a deal in place with the Spanish club, and the transfer would compound once the player returns from holiday. The relationship between the clubs is stringent, and it is viewed as an easy deal to conclude.
Arsenal will gear up to pay €30m to sign the 28-year-old this summer, and the signing has the capacity to come through in the next couple of days. Personal terms with the player have also been already agreed.
The player is excited about the potential transfer, with Arteta having given Merino a detailed explanation of his vision and tactical setup.
Sociedad signs Merino replacement, as his move to Arsenal nears completion
As Real Sociedad sanction a departure for Mikel Merino, they are already gearing up for a potential replacement as they have announced the signing of Luka Susic from RB Leipzig. This shows that a potential Merino exit is just around the corner.
Arsenal, meanwhile, would be hoping to have him donning the Gunners badge at the Emirates Stadium in time for the Emirates Cup when Bayer Leverkusen visits North London next week. It is also anticipated to be the game where Riccardo Calafiori will make his Arsenal debut.
Physical presence and Spanish education in our midfield. Starting role but not near an important enough player to keep Nwaneri out of rotation. Pivot player, intelligent in pockets, box crasher, definition of an all-phase CM. Perfectly compliments Rice and Odegaard. https://t.co/vFPubZ3K30
