Nacho Monreal has established himself as fan favorite at Emirates. His goals and assists going forward, interceptions and tackles indulged with his charismatic style of play, they love it all.
Nacho was one of Arsenal’s most reliable performers last season whether playing as a center-back or left-wing back. He offers solidity in the center, creativity on the flanks and is also a presence in air.
Monreal joined the Gunners from Malaga on the winter transfer deadline day of 2013. He didn’t come in as a big name marquee signing but it seems he has developed himself into it.
Wenger referred Monreal as an ‘silent leader‘, someone who works hard – does his job and goes home unnoticed.
“The world of silent leaders,” Wenger explained, “is when people come, they perform, they don’t talk, they go home, and they come in the next morning, train well, and then the next day they do it again. They are the real leaders.”
Monreal’s current deal with Arsenal runs out at the end of next season and a summer exit would give Unai Emery a bit more money to play with before the transfer deadline. Now hearing this gets you excited, doesn’t it?
But, I would keep Nacho Monreal any day rather than getting in someone new right now. Yes, I agree Monreal will turn thirty-three and its better to get someone young.
But remember we do have Sead ‘Hulk’ Kolasinac, he is a beast. Ain’t he? A physical man who would just throw anyone who comes in his ways, be it defending or attacking.
Arsenal supporters love Kolasinac, and he could just be Nacho Monreal’s successor for Arsenal.
Though presence of Nacho Monreal seems necessary at least till Sead finds his feet with Arsenal. Yes, Kolasinac was brilliant when he was given his chances – but he needs sometime, maybe a season more.
