Jordan Nobbs was once the heartbeat of Arsenal’s midfield. Now, she’s at the centre of something new, a statement project in the North East.
Newcastle United Women have pulled off a massive coup with the signing of Jordan Nobbs on a free transfer. The 32-year-old midfielder, who holds the record for the most appearances in Women’s Super League history (208), joins after a 15-year career at the top of English football with Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Nobbs’ arrival signals clear intent from Newcastle, who are targeting top-flight promotion after a strong debut campaign in the Women’s Championship, finishing fifth in their first season since promotion in 2024.
But this is about more than experience: it’s about leadership, pedigree, and ambition.
Back to the North East
Born in Stockton-on-Tees, this move brings Nobbs back to her roots. Her journey began at Sunderland’s centre of excellence and led to a decorated career. Now, she returns to lead the next chapter of women’s football in the North East.
“It’s a dream to have all my family and friends supporting me here at Newcastle,” she told Sky Sports. “I’ve always had a winning mentality, and it’s the same mentality here — every game is like a cup final.”
And she’s not just here for the feel-good factor. Nobbs knows what success looks like. During her 12-year Arsenal career, she racked up three WSL titles, four FA Cups, and five League Cups, scoring 81 goals in 270 appearances. She also earned 71 England caps, contributing to World Cup and European Championship squads that changed the face of the women’s game.
“Transformational Signing” for Newcastle
Manager Becky Langley isn’t hiding her excitement.
“Jordan’s experience speaks for itself,” Langley said. “She knows what it takes to win. She has long been one of the best midfielders in the country and will undoubtedly bring a lot of quality to our squad.”
Nobbs joins a team that has only been professional since 2023 but is already acting like it belongs at the top. Newcastle have ambitious plans to reach the WSL, and the signing of Nobbs is a statement of intent.
She brings tactical intelligence, elite mentality, and crucially — a winning edge. At Arsenal, she played under pressure. At Newcastle, she’ll lead with it.
What’s Next?
Reports suggest Newcastle aren’t done. Republic of Ireland defender Aoife Mannion and Wales international Ffion Morgan are also close to joining the Magpies this summer, further underlining the club’s growing stature.
For Nobbs, this is a full-circle moment. For Newcastle, it might just be the start of something special.
