Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard is working hard to convince Rosenborg star Sverre Halseth Nypan to choose them over English rivals Manchester City.
The 18-year-old joined the Norwegian outfit in 2021 and broke into their senior team in less than 12 months time. He can feature anywhere in midfield and also as a false nine, but he specialises as an attacking midfielder.
His phenomenal potential has helped him attract interest from top suitors in the Premier League. The youngster has scored 24 goals in just 60 appearances, an excellent return for a starter.
Arsenal and Man United are leading candidates in this race, and both clubs are going toe to toe to lure the next-gen superstar. Nypan will be a valuable asset in the long run, but the transfer approach made by these clubs has been different.

Although the player has revealed that he dreams of joining the Old Trafford outfit, United have slowed down their interest as they look to address other problems in their squad. Ruben Amorim’s side were front-runners in this race, but their indecisiveness could prove to be costly as Arsenal are closing in on a move.
MIKEL ARTETA ORDERS ODEGAARD TO TALK TO NYPAN
Manager Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of Nypan and wants him at the N5. He has tasked ‘agent’ Martin Ødegaard to convince the midfield star to explore the North London route.
The Rosenborg sensation has reached out to his compatriot to get advice regarding which club is best for his future. He is trying to understand the environment at Arsenal and how he could seamlessly shift from academy to senior football.
The Gunners are becoming a tempting option, and now it’s up to Nypan to choose his next destination. Rosenborg will be happy to part ways if they recurve a fee of around £10 million for their in-demand star.
🚨 @David_Ornstein: “What Arsenal will be doing, like many other clubs, is looking for young players for the future, some of the best in Europe. [Sverre Halseth] Nypan, who plays for Rosenborg — Arsenal really like him, I’m sure others do as well.” [@TheAthleticFC Podcast] pic.twitter.com/KJalfMi4jN

His wage demands aren’t a problem either, and that makes this deal even more attractive on paper. As things stand, it is unlikely for United to make a formal bid within the next six months.

Arteta and co. need to act quickly, as Chelsea and Man City are also keeping an eye on the player. Waiting until summer won’t be ideal, and they should pull the trigger before the February 3 transfer deadline date.
Arsenal’s recent injury woes will motivate them to move ahead. It will be an excellent opportunity for the player to chip in and contribute in any way possible.
