Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko believes that the Gunners have “everything” they need to win the Premier League title this season.
Manchester City have dominated the Premier League in recent years, winning the last four titles, with Arsenal emerging as their closest competitors over the past two seasons. Last season’s title race was particularly close, with City edging out the Gunners by just two points, despite Arsenal winning 16 of their last 18 games. It was an impressive run, but it wasn’t enough to dethrone The Citizens, who remain unbeaten in 2024.
Zinchenko reflects on the experience gained
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the league title, Zinchenko believes that the experience gained over the last two seasons has made Mikel Arteta’s men stronger.
“We all know how tough this league is,” said the Ukrainian. “How tough this competition is and how demanding it is. These last two years gave us a lot of experience in terms of not dropping a lot of points during the season because every single game is so important. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is.”
Zinchenko added that he feels the current Arsenal squad has everything needed to stop Man City’s dominance and win the Gunners’ first Premier League title in over 20 years. The defender stated:
“Obviously, I think we have everything. An amazing squad, amazing coaching staff, a lot of fans around the world supporting and pushing us forward. I don’t see any reason why we can’t achieve everything that we want. Of course, it’s going to be super tough. Only God knows what will happen. For sure we will give our best to make our dreams happen.”
Zinchenko is no stranger to silverware, having won four Premier League titles with Manchester City before joining Arsenal in 2022 for £32 million. Since then, he has made 54 league appearances for the Gunners, scoring twice and providing four assists.
New arrivals will bolster Arsenal’s squad
The 27-year-old is right about the strength of Arsenal’s squad. The Gunners have recently added Riccardo Calafiori and look set to sign midfielder Mikel Merino. The recovery of Jurrien Timber is also like a new signing. While City will no doubt mount a serious title defence, there is quiet optimism that Arsenal might be the ones to lift the coveted trophy this season.
