Pablo Mari was forced off in the first half in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad on Wednesday night.
The Spaniard is ruled out for the rest of the season having suffered serious ligament damage to his ankle. The 26-year-old, on loan from Flamengo, may need surgery to nurse back to full fitness.

Meanwhile, Granit Xhaka was also forced off the Premier League return in opening minutes with an ankle injury but the Swiss isn’t believed to be as serious as Pablo and may also be back before the season concludes.
“They are getting assessed at the moment then we will know something more tomorrow morning,” Mikel Arteta said after the match. “Pablo’s one didn’t look very good to be fair.”
