Gunners forward Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang has revealed that he would like to prove a point to all the doubters that Arsenal can perform away from home as well.
A 2-0 victory over Napoli in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final gave Arsenal a crucial advantage to take with them on their travel before the second leg at the San Paolo Stadium in Italy next week.
Despite Unai Emery making the Emirates Stadium quite a fortress this season, the Spaniard is aware that Arsenal’s away record has been horrendous. On their travels, this season, the North London side has won just two games in all competitions, against Huddersfield Town and Blackpool.
Arsenal also suffered a 2-0 defeat against Everton this weekend at Goodison Park but overcame Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli in style with at the Emirates. But on their travels, Arsenal seems to be out of their comfort zone and are renowned to be soft in hostile situations.
The second leg of the quarter-final tie at Napoli will certainly be a chance for Arsenal to prove a point and Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang believes that Arsenal has a great chance of proving all their doubters wrong.
The 29-year-old said that he wants to send a message to everyone and that Arsenal will head into the game with a lot of confidence, “If you win there I think you send a message to everybody. It will be an important game and a good challenge for us. We know away we have some difficulties. We have to improve that. We will go to Napoli with a lot of confidence, everything is in our hands. We will go there to score goals and try to win the game.”
Goals from Aaron Ramsey and Lucas Torreira gave the Gunners a 2-0 cushion against a rather disrupted Napoli side last night and Aubameyang admitted that the margin of victory could have been bigger but was still satisfied and confident of going through, “We played well and it was important to win, I think we had a lot of chances to score more goals, but we didn’t concede and that is a good point, that’s really important. We talked before the game that it was important to be strong defensively and that was the key. We defended well, the strikers as well. I think we all played well. Now we will go to Napoli with a lot of confidence and we will go there to score goals. We will give everything and I am sure we will go through.”
