Newcastle United are exploring a move for Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old garnered a lot of interest since rumours spread about his plans to shift to another Premier League club.
Nelson’s chances to feature regularly under manager Mikel Arteta have taken a hit. He started just one league game (641 minutes of total action) last season.
With Bukayo Saka far ahead of him in the attacking order, he either needs to move or watch his status fall further down.

The Gunners were hunting for a fresh winger, with Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling a strong possibility to walk in through the gates of London Colney.
But that seems very unlikely until and unless Arsenal lose one of their own players. SkySports’ journalist Dharmesh Seth mentioned four Premier League’s immediate interest in the English star.
Newcastle United plan A loan move for Arsenal ace Reiss Nelson
Newcastle United are planning to pip them all and strike a loan move for Nelson. It’s a simple season-long loan transfer with no obligation to buy.
TalkSPORT claimed that the Magpies were exploring a move for Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Forest might go for Nelson as a replacement.
But Elanga could have cost them £35 million, but Nelson is available for a meagre fee of £20m (permanent move). A loan deal will do the least harm, but they need to figure out paying £100k in wages to the right-winger.

The Arsenal star signed a new lucrative contract last summer as Arteta and Edu tried hard to convince him to stay. Even if they don’t stand in his way this summer, the Gooners have little time to find a replacement.

Other options might come knocking at the door, and it remains to be seen whether they allow the English international to leave. It’s still a win-win situation for the Gunners since they might pay those wages to another player who arrives on loan.
This will help them to bring in an experienced winger like Sterling or Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman for one season. Arteta can test the newly arrived player without taking the risk of signing him permanently.
