Reiss Nelson to assess transfer options

Reiss-Nelson-Transfer-News

Reiss Nelson has informed Arsenal that he is considering a move away from the club this summer and would like to assess his transfer options. The 24-year-old signed a new contract until 2027 (with an option for an additional year) last July but is unhappy with his playing time in North London.

Nelson failed to start a single game in the Premier League in the 2022-23 season, prompting the Englishman to seek a move away. Arsenal rejected approaches for him as they wanted him to stay at the club given the multiple competitions they were competing in. Nelson’s game time has not improved much this season, starting just five games across all competitions. This includes a sole start in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old primarily plays as a winger but is capable of leading the line. His speed and tricky dribbling abilities makes him a tough opponent for any fullback. Nelson has represented England at various youth levels but is still seeking his first senior international call-up.

The Arsenal academy graduate has enjoyed loan spells at TSG Hoffenheim and Feyenoord and has shown his ability to score goals when given regular game time. The Gunners will reportedly demand a fee of around £20 million for the Englishman.

According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham United are all interested in Nelson. With multiple clubs interested, a bidding war could begin, resulting in a higher profit for the Gunners.

Nelson is clearly not in Mikel Arteta’s plans, so selling him this summer is the ideal move for the North London side. Ideally, Nelson should be sold to a club outside of England, but so far, there doesn’t seem to be interest in the player outside of the Premier League. If the 24-year-old is sold, Arsenal will be looking for a talented winger to deputize for star man Bukayo Saka.
