Keane’s bold prediction on Gyokeres
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane dismissed the idea that Gyokeres needs to be a silky or stylish forward to thrive. Instead, he underlined the striker’s natural instincts and relentlessness inside the box.
“He’s not silky, is he? But he’ll end up scoring you lots of goals. Come the end of the season, I bet you’re going, listen, he’s got us 20 goals, lad.” – Roy Keane
Ian Wright had earlier praised Gyokeres’ sharp movements and link-up play, noting that teammates are still adjusting to his runs. Gary Neville also backed Keane’s view, agreeing that Arsenal finally have a proper number nine who thrives on service into the box.
Joining an elite Arsenal club?
If Gyokeres hits 20 Premier League goals, he’ll join an exclusive list of Arsenal icons. Only six players have managed it before in the league era: Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Emmanuel Adebayor, Robin van Persie, Alexis Sanchez, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
With Havertz out, Gyokeres is likely to get the majority of minutes up front, and Arteta will want him firing ahead of crunch clashes against Liverpool and Manchester City. If he finds rhythm early, Keane’s prediction might not look so bold come May.
