Arsenal summer signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos made his first appearance in Arsenal colors in pre-season clash against Boreham Wood on Saturday.
Though we only got 45 minutes of Sokratis before he was subbed off at half time, there were many things noticed.
Sokratis looked to struggle against the pace of Morgan Ferrier and he would have to improve in this aspect considering the pacey Premier League. He certainly will get better and should be ready before the likes of Aguero, Mahrez and Sterling are running towards him on 11 August on the Opening Matchday of Premier League.
Something all Arsenal supporters are talking about is his ‘leadership’. Sokratis was a vocal presence in the backing, making sure the defence stays composed and was also seen guiding Konstantinos Mavropanos multiple times throughout the half.
This is something Arsenal have lacked since years, and this is something Arsenal need right now (especially considering their defensive vows last season).
Still a long time for the season to commence and Sokratis is expected to be Arsenal’s key defender. It’s just time before he gets fully fit and throws the opponent down, something which he loves to do.
