I don’t understand as to why there has been a cloud of discontentment hovering around Meunier’s signing by Arsenal? The Arsenal fans does not seem to be liking the opinion. Yes, I agree that it is a weird and unruly link but I also feel a smart one.
Thomas Meunier may not be our priority but surely is not a bad buy either. The right-back has consistently being wanting an exit from PSG and Unai Emery wants him back to play under. There are two scenarios where Meunier’s signing makes sense, apart from it being Emery’s emotional attachment of a former player he had trained.
Hector Bellerin as we all know has been injured for along time this season but selling him is not wha Arsenal may be thinking. So, this goes down the barrel. The second one being a traditional right-back that can play for Maitland-Niles.
Yes, the youngster has performed over the bars and above par but come Meunier, we can see him in a more central role, one that he personally likes. With Thomas on the right-back, Maitland-Niles will get a plenty of options to go front and help in the offensive area.
Or maybe, Emery sees Meunier as a Monreal like positioned player where he can feature as a right-sided centre back, just the way Monreal did in accompanying Sokratis and Koscielny. And a security to right-back position is insanely necessary.
Maitland-Niles has already showcased a lot of creativity and exquisiteness in the attacking quadrant which if Meunier joins Arsenal will give Niles the freedom to play as a winger too. That sure will be a thumbs up from everyone and an overpowered right side of Arsenal to threaten others.
The best thing about Meunier is that he is pocket-friendly, money-saviour and a talent for only £26 million. That being said, is a huge discount for a miser Arsenal club.
Having options is Emery’s want. And with Meunier coming in, Emery will have a plenty of options in the back and also a few shuffles up front. Signing Meunier will be a problem solved, for the rest come back here!
