Newcastle centre back Fabian Schar is having an wonderful season with the Magpies and all success comes with opportunities waiting at the other end of the tunnel, the Swiss International, who just joined the St. James Park last summer, is been targeted by North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham.
Former Hoffenheim defender currently has a deal with Newcastle United which runs out in June 2021, and the men in Blacks and Whites might just be ready to sell the services of Fabian for something around £13 million.
Arsenal are in need of defensive reinforcements and there were talks over getting a potential centre-back in January, after Unai Emery’s side conceding 39 league goals this season.
Meanwhile as Toby Alderweireld’s Tottenham future hangs in-doubt (despite the club triggering one-year extension clause of his contract earlier this year after multiple links away from North London).
In January, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez admitted Schar was not the club’s first-choice transfer target in the summer although the Swiss international has been exceptional for Newcastle this season establishing himself as an fan favorite at St. James Park.
He said: “I knew him when he was at Basel, but also when he was at Deportivo La Coruna.
“I have some friends there and they told me about the (relegation) release clause, and we started analysing things.
“I would be lying if I said he was always the first target, but we knew he could come in and help. We knew he had experience and had some quality on the ball, especially with his right foot.
“He has done really well. We have some really good centre-backs.”
