A bit of fire craps into the game when you have fierce centre-backs on the mat. Arsenal’s position of the need for this summer centre-back that was fulfilled by the signing of Greek gladiator SOKRATIS will mow come to be judged as whether or not the signing was apt.
It is that position that I look upon, importantly so if either of the teams fancy themselves harboring through and making their title hopes alive. A wise position to be up and standing on, centre-backs will be highly values with both the teams having world-class strikers.
Obliged to help their respective teams, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Kalidou Koulibaly are the most important members for their teams even before the game starts. For what I have seen so far, this two feel to be the most filled centre-backs in European football.
What makes them too good?
Sokratis Papastathopoulos
We all had thought that Arsenal’s first half of the season would be tough in defensive quadrant, but Sokratis had other plans within. The Greek commander came into the Premier League, already adapted and never let us felt that it was/is his first season in England.
Putting in all his experience and body, Sokratis has been our seasoned campaigner so far with so little mistakes.
The bold and bulky defender that he is, Sokratis’ mammoth figure is enough for short Mertens to be scared of.
Apart from his figure, Sokratis is as helpful with his positioning, winning aerial duels and being present where he needs to, whenever he needs to. A substantial upgrade that he has proved for us in the absence of Mustafi and Koscielny, the Greek is high on confidence and stature.
Kalidou Koulibaly
I say again, if we wouldn’t have signed Sokratis, Koulibaly would have been purs. This itself speaks about the kind of player the Naples centre-back is. With his performance growing and glowing, along with his market value, the defensive aptitude of this guy will be tough to out-muscle.
His strongly built structure is an asset, so is his traditional outlook for the game. Simple yet effective in his defence, Koulibaly has become a £100 million star with interests from our rival clubs, United being the top. And if this turns out to be penned, let us show him the thirst of football that he’ll have to drink in England.
The Senegal international has been the wall of Napoli, too tough to break and too long to climb. Diego Maradona once described him as “phenomenal, the best defender in Serie A” What makes him a real threat is his build up play and passing abilities.
A smart decision-maker, he is very fast and capable of covering up the oppositions play.
