“After certain age, the footballing world tends to forget you but glory remains.” Such has been the Journey of Premier League great Petr Cech, who has the record of most Premier League clean-sheets in the championship history. He had shown his A-class during his time at Chelsea. The 36-year-old Czech Republican played for 11 years in Blue shirt, amassing 333 games at Stamford Bridge.
The champion joined Arsenal in 2015 while aged 33 and nearing retirement. However, under Wenger, Cech enjoyed the role of first keeper before losing it to his compatriot Leno, due to his patchy performances. Now, Petr Cech warms the bench while watching his German co, assess the woodworks.
The 36-year-old has not got a chance to perform for the Gunners but will get a rare one when Arsenal face Blackpool in the FA Cup draw. While it seems more than certain that it will be his last year in a big club, Cech would want to make the most of this opportunity and regain his post.
No one has bettered the FA Cup than Cech, who has lifted the trophy 5 times, latest in 2017 with the Gunners.
“I don’t know now,” Emery replied
“This is a question for the club and the player to deal with our necessary things with the goalkeeper.
“But when he played at the start of the season, he did very well. He was very good behaviour, commitment and performance.
“Then when he had the injury Leno started playing with a big performance also and then he recovered his position on the bench. But I am happy with him.”
All situations like this, we will speak with the player and with the club but at the moment, I want his focus the same, each training, each match.
‘He is going to play Saturday to give us his performance and then we are going to decide also within what is the best for him and for the club.’
Let’s hope to see Petr Cech adding a tally to his clean sheets against Blackpool on Saturday evening encounter considering he may exit the club this summer.
