Arsenal have invested massively in the academy, and while Per Mertesacker continues to do so – the scouts continue to present with applaudable opportunities from beyond Hale End. Two of those are young talented US players who are training with the Arsenal’s under-23s over a potential move to the Emirates.
There were previously reports about Colorado Rapids midfielder Dantouma “Yaya” Toure training with the North Londoners. Now, as per reports by MLS Soccer – Darren Yapi is also taking part in training sessions with the N17 outfit. The 17-year-old penned a homegrown contract with Colorado Rapids ahead of 2021 campaign, and spent most of the following year on loan at Colorado Switchbacks, Rapids’ Championship affiliate, scoring a couple of goals in the time being.
Darren Yapi boasts an impressive record at the academy level, netting 64 goals in 95 outings before signing his homegrown contract. There should not be any hurdles for the Gunners if they want to bring him to England – with Colorado Rapids technically being their sister club, as Rapids’ are also owned by Stan Kroenke.
It looks like Arsenal and Colorado Rapids are forging links to get top US talents down to trials with Arsenal – and who knows, we may sign another Flo Balogun soon.
