Mesut Ozil took on the captain’s armband again, although virtually in the UEFA Europa league comeback win against Rennes when he cowboy up and took the heat on himself to control Lacazette who was wanting to be suspended.
Mesut Ozil was seen putting words in the mind of an unwanted but furious Lacazette. In a match that began under the smokescreen of Rennes fan that literally had the start delayed because of the flare also saw a fume in our German international.
Usually we don’t see Ozil’s leadership half in convincing or brawling on one his own players rather we see him demanding the ball in the attacking third or leading from the front in constructing the play. He opposes the option of sliding into the tackle, a conservative and traditional approach though.
Lacazette, however, was transitory to Ozil’s way of playing, sliding into the tackle for every ball that came through his eyes even after already getting booked earlier. Ozil then took the matter into his hands when Lacazette was on the verge of getting yellow carded for the second time.
Lacazette had made a filthy tackle already on Benjamin Andre but little was he bothered with the previous tackle and seemed to be on a mood of getting suspended. Had it not been for Ozil, maybe he would have literally had to leave the pitch.
