Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is holding out on extending his contract at Arsenal in bid to ensure Champions League football as well as access the interested parties.
Aubameyang’s current contact with the Gunners runs out in summer of 2021 and there were reports Arsenal could lose him this summer if they fail to qualify in Europe’s most elite competition for another year.
The Gabonese is said to be a popular name in Catalonia with Barcelona keen to bring him at Nou Camp this summer – though is it a feasible move?
Barcelona has likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Greizemann and Luis Suarez in their ranks up ahead, and according to former Scotland international Craig Burley – Aubameyang would only be a “bit-part” player for Barcelona.
“I don’t see this happening because in his head he knows if this was to happen, he’s going there to sit on the bench,” Burley told ESPN FC.
“There’s already a problem at Barcelona because Griezmann’s been shuffled out onto the left-hand side because of Suarez and because of Messi playing in-behind.
“I’m not sure they would go for a player like that anyway, although he’s a good goalscorer, but I think for him it wouldn’t be a great move because he would be a bit-part player at Barcelona currently, with their squad.”
Aubameyang has been clinical for the Gunners this campaign, in fact his goalscoring prowess is something Unai Emery has been highly dependent on up-ahead.
Arsenal have a major task at thier hand to qualify for the Champions League and their challenge starts tomorrow once again as they face nineteenth plave Southampton. Emery definitely needs to win this one – as sack bells continue to ring.
