Edu-Arsenal

Arsenal Football Club have been rocked with the news that current Sporting Director Edu Gaspar has announced he will be vacating his role in the near future. Having joined the club as Technical Director in 2019, Gaspar was promoted to his current role in 2022 and has been one of the key pillars for the club’s rise to competitiveness.

The Brazilian forged an excellent working relationship with manager Mikel Arteta as the two were closely involved in the scouting and acquisition of players over the years. Edu and Arteta were also known to have meetings with the squad at regular intervals to monitor progress and ensure that the team progressed in the right direction at the right tempo.

Edu Gaspar formerly represented Arsenal as a player and made 127 appearances for the Gunners as a midfielder. Despite not being among the core fan favourites during his playing days, he endeared himself to the Arsenal faithful with his astute leadership during his time in his director roles.

Gaspar was instrumental in the Gunners’ signing of Gabriel Martinelli for a measly sum after spotting the teenager represent Ituano in the second tier of Brazilian football. Losing such a key member during a string of poor results comes as a double whammy for the Gunners who will now be in search for an adequate replacement for Edu.

As per exclusive reports from TBR Football, there were issues between Edu Gaspar and the other members of Arsenal’s hierarchy that led to strained relations. This led to the Brazilian becoming increasingly uncomfortable in his role, which ultimately led to him deciding to step down. The decision was taken under unpleasant circumstances and sources close to the Brazilian have confirmed it was not taken lightly.
