Summer was a tough time to be Wilfried Zaha, as his dream move to Arsenal collapsed on the very edge.
Zaha talked about how amazing it felt when he found out that Arsenal were pursuing his signatures last summer. But Arsenal decided to splash cash on Nicolas Pepe instead and Wilfried, who is a lifelong Arsenal fan, admitted on Rio Ferdinand’s Youtube show Locker Room how flattered he was by Gunners’ approach.
Zaha said: ‘It was nice. Supporting them and having them wanting you at the same time, leaves you thinking: ‘this is amazing’.
‘But things never worked out so you just have to move on as quickly as possible. I was thinking this may happen and my family was saying ‘wow it’s Arsenal,’ but yeah it just didn’t work out.’
Unai Emery recently revealed he met Zaha, which shows how near Wilfried was joining to Arsenal but a younger Nicolas Pepe grabbed Arsenal’s attention as Crystal Palace were holding a tough stance financially for the winger.
Wilfried Zaha has been one of Premier League’s most skilled stars for sometime now and is a popular figure at t Selhurst Park since joining Crystal Palace at the start of the 2014-15 Premier League season. Zaha has netted 38 goals in 210 appearances for the Eagles.
And talking to Ferdinand, he acknowledged his desires of silverware.
‘I’m 27, trophies is what it’s all about. If there’s opportunities for me to win trophies then 100 per cent.’, Zaha continued.
‘That’s 100 per cent what I want in my career. So everyday I’m working towards that.’
Wilfired has been rather misfiring this season, netting only three goals in twenty-nine Premier League bouts this campaign and meanwhile his Arsenal’s alternative – Nicolas Pepe, is also struggling to find is feet running in England.
Nicolas has netted four goals in twenty-four appearances for the Gunners since his move from Lille last summer.
