Arsenal drew to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening at the Amex, which was disappointing to watch as the North London club were on a course of 4 match winning streak in all competitions.
Here are few things we have noticed from the draw:
1) Inconsistency
The Gunners were on a winning streak of 4 consecutive matches before drawing against Graham Potter’s men. After defeating Spurs in the North London Derby, Mikel Arteta’s side went to the Amex with full confidence and were favourites to grab all three points. But things went otherwise at the Amex Stadium, as Arsenal found themselves being dominated by the Seagulls majority of the time. Brighton managed to keep 59% of the possession during the game with 84% passing accuracy. Potters’ men had 21 shots at goals and on the other hand, Arsenal had only 8. The Gunners have finished 8th on the points table for two consecutive seasons and, the main reason behind this is inconsistency.
2) Lacazette needs to be given more game time
The French striker’s contract expires next summer. Lacazette is yet to start a game in the Premier League for the Gunners as Mikel Arteta prefers Aubameyang to take up the role as the striker. Aubameyang was silent during the game against Brighton. The Gabon International was not able to break through the Brighton defence. He doesn’t drop back down to receive the ball, unlike Lacazette. When Laca came on for Auba, he made that back pass which Partey made a through ball to Smith Rowe who unfortunately failed to convert his chance. Also, Lacazette seems to have good coordination with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe. In the game against Wimbledon, Laca was able to play quick first touch passes with the duo and seems to be more comfortable playing with them.
Arsenal will not be in action this weekend due to the ongoing international break. The Gunners host Crystal Palace on 19th October at the Emirates.
