Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich reportedly sees Arsenal as one of his top potential destinations this summer. The 29-year-old midfielder, regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, has yet to agree on a new deal with the German giants. With Kimmich’s contract expiring in 2025, Arsenal could either secure him on a cut-price deal this summer or wait for him to run out his contract with Bayern.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg claims that Kimmich’s departure this summer or the next is “becoming increasingly likely.” According to the journalist, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Liverpool are the five clubs the midfielder is considering.
The Gunners are in the market for a new midfielder this summer, with Joao Neves and Martin Zubimendi among the names being considered. While the club prefers a number eight, sources indicate that the North London side will be content with a deep-lying number six. Adding another holding midfielder would allow Declan Rice to play with more freedom, assuming the role of a box-to-box midfielder.
Kimmich made his professional debut for RB Leipzig in Germany’s third division in 2013. After two successful seasons with Leipzig, he joined Bayern Munich for £6 million. Since then, he has cemented himself as one of the elite midfielders globally, making 390 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.
Currently representing Germany at the 2024 UEFA Euros, Kimmich is likely to make a decision on his future once the tournament concludes. The midfielder would be an excellent fit at Arsenal, adding real quality to the starting lineup.
Defensively strong, with a stellar work ethic and tactical fluidity, Kimmich shines with the ball. He is an exceptional passer, always composed in possession, and has excellent vision. A midfield trio of Kimmich, Martin Ødegaard, and Rice would be one of the best in the Premier League.
Bayern Munich will likely ask for a fee around £35 million, which is a bargain for such a quality midfielder. With Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe, and Albert Sambi Lokonga likely to depart the Emirates, Mikel Arteta would consider Kimmich a dream addition to his lineup.
