There may be a surprise twist unfolding at Arsenal in the ongoing winter transfer window as reports out of Brazil suggest that Jorginho could part ways with the club as early as this month.
The 33-year-old Italian midfielder, whose contract expires in the summer, is reportedly not in line for an extension at the Emirates (at least a pure playing extension; there might be a possibility of a coaching contract).
And according to ESPN Brazil, the former Chelsea midfielder has been offered to Palmeiras, with discussions between both parties already taking place. While he will have six months on his current deal at London Colney, there is still a possibility of an agreement of terms that could see him move sooner from N5.
However, Jorginho’s return to Brazil will depend on the probable destinations as the report insists he would go only if he can sign for one of the two clubs featured in this edition of the 2025 Club World Cup, Palmeiras and Flamengo.
Jorginho is an asset at Arsenal, don’t really see him leaving this month
Ever since Jorginho joined the squad from Chelsea, he has proved to be an asset to the Gunners’ midfield on the field and, more importantly, off the field.
However, for any deal to be concluded between Arsenal and Palmeiras, there not only will be a bit of negotiations, but also the Gunners would need to bring in another midfielder this winter, balancing the short-term needs at the Emirates Stadium and Jorginho’s desire for a smooth transition. For Palmeiras, securing a player of his experience and calibre would be a significant boost as they prepare for domestic and international competition.

It is to be seen what happens from now to the end of the window, but these rumours look bleak at the moment, and given Jorginho’s commitments and professionalism, it is hard to see him making a decision to quit in the middle of the season amid Arsenal’s title aspirations.
