Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane this January, but are awaiting a formal go-ahead from the German side before they can make the move official. This is as per reports from Arsenal Fanatics News, who have also added that Bayern are holding out on their response as the club’s hierarchy still has hopes of convincing Sane to stay on.
Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly interested in the player, but could lose out to Arsenal in the race to sign him. This is down to the fact that playing in the Premier League would be familiar surroundings for Sane, and he would be reunited with his former coach Mikel Arteta, whom he worked with during his stint with Manchester City.
The German winger joined Bayern Munich in 2020 after a falling out with Pep Guardiola at City, as the player forced a move away. Since then, Leroy Sane has made 194 appearances across competitions, scoring 53 goals and providing 51 assists as well. This output was arguably at a lower rate than his 39 goals and 43 assists in 135 games for City, but at 28, there is still a player in there for sure.
Revisiting Leroy Sane’s time with Man City
Leroy Sane came through the ranks at SG Wattenscheid 09, Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen between 2001-14, before eventually breaking into Schalke’s first team in 2014. He made 57 appearances for their senior team, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists. His impressive performances earned him a £46.5 million move to Manchester City in August 2016.
He spent five years with the Cityzens and was a mainstay in the starting lineup with Raheem Sterling on the other wing. He won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three EFL Cups and two FA Community Shields with City before eventually departing for Bayern Munich in 2020.

Despite putting in some incredible performances on English soil, there is a feeling that Leroy Sane has unfinished business in the country. Should Arsenal sign him, he could prove to be the ideal piece in the puzzle.
