Victor Ozhianvuna has won a second League of Ireland title with Shamrock Rovers, and the teenager is still due to join Arsenal in January 2027 once he turns 18.
The Gunners have agreed the deal some time ago, which allowed the youngster to finish the season with the club that has developed him since the age of six. A back injury has kept him out for the last five months, though, so Arsenal are helping to manage his recovery from a distance.
It is not the first time Arsenal have kept an eye on a Shamrock Rovers talent either, as they were previously reported to be monitoring Michael Noonan at the Dublin club.
Rovers went into their penultimate game of the season three points ahead of Bohemians. A 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers, combined with Bohemians’ 1-0 defeat to Shelbourne, confirmed them as champions for the second year in a row. The title was sealed on Friday night, according to reports from now.arsenal.
Victor Ozhianvuna title win: what he contributed
Ozhianvuna made 13 league appearances for Rovers in 2025 and another 18 this time around. He was having a particularly positive impact in early May, providing assists in consecutive games against Drogheda United and Galway United.
He was even being tipped by his manager for a senior international call-up. Then came the injury, and his run of good form came to a halt.
Victor Ozhianvuna injury: growth spurt behind the back problem
Rovers boss Stephen Bradley confirmed in September that the player’s back and hip pain is linked to a growth spurt. Arsenal are helping to manage his recovery, and the two clubs are simply being cautious given his age.
His absence in the closing months of the campaign has not stopped Rovers from retaining the title. The way both clubs have handled the situation shows a clear understanding between them, and for a player this young that matters.
Victor Ozhianvuna to Arsenal: contract and fee
Ozhianvuna will reportedly sign a four-and-a-half-year contract with Arsenal in January, which would take him through to 2031. Rovers are guaranteed around €2m (£1.68m) as a transfer fee, plus potentially more in sell-on money.
The switch can only go through after he turns 18 on January 10th, and Arsenal will want him fully recovered from the growth-related issue before that happens. For Gooners, it is a long-term signing rather than a quick fix. With Max Dowman already pushing for minutes and other January targets on the list, the club clearly keeps one eye on the next generation.
Author Opinion
Two league titles by the age of 17 is a strong calling card, and the fact that Arsenal let him finish the job at Rovers rather than rushing him is sensible. A five-month injury layoff would worry me more if it were not tied to a growth spurt. The priority now is simple: get him fit, get him signed on January 10th and then let N5 see what the fuss is about.
