Someone rightly said,”Thierry Henry cannot play forever and therefore God created Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.”
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has strings attached to his boots. Whatever touches his foot flows out like a bullet. The Golden Boot winner in his first season is not a cake-walk for many but Aubameyang. This guy is all hearts now.
In the first season we often accompany players with the excuse of adaptability. When they come to English Premier League in English condition, we see them struggling to couple together with their form and talent. This has been the anecdote of every individual that has come from a different league. Aubameyang, however, is not counted in the “theory of adaptability” because he is no-human. His genes should be tested once.
22 goals in the first season for a debutant where his team could not qualify for the Europa League yet again. The award was shared by Aubameyang with two Liverpool strikers, Mohamed Salah who won it last year too and Sadio Mane. Before last game, Mohamed Salah was two goals clear of Mane and Auba who were standing at 20. Sergio Aguero was there too with same goals but he could only take his tally to 21 with a goal against Brighton.
A brace for both in their respective games gave us 3 top scorers of the season, which rarely happens almost never. In an intensely fought competition where the attack is not one of Spanish competitions, scoring 22 goals is ridiculous.
Aubameyang, the most-expensive buy came in for a reason which he seems to be fulfilling. The guy has found ways to score and smash the ball past nets just like he did at Dortmund in a season where he scored as many goals as games played. His performance this year was good except for against the big 6 teams which if improved will make him a “total beast”.
The next season, first thing Aubameyang has to develop is scoring against big clubs and with Lacazette getting flattering response from Barcelona, the statute of responsibility will be Aubameyang who’ll have to score in almost every game.
For the team as a whole, Premier League season may not be one to dwell upon. But for Aubameyang, the champagne should be fizzed because Golden Boot is one big thing. Let’s hope the Gabonese international continues his form in next season too and wins it convincingly.
