There has been a rumour going on around the town over David Luiz’ future at Arsenal which was soon complemented by his desire to end his career at boyhood club Benfica.
Luiz’ agent Kia Joorabchian insisted that the Brazilian has “no desire to leave” Arsenal and there is a “very high chance” David will still be at N5 next season.
David Luiz signed a one year contract at the Emirates last summer with an option of another year, but as per reports by Goal – Arsenal are yet to open talks with his representatives over the 33-year-old stay at the Emirates cometh the next campaign.
David Luiz talking about his desire to return to Benfica fueling on going rumours about his potential Arsenal exit, speaking with Portuguese publication Record last week: “My dream is to end my career at Benfica. When, I don’t know, but it will happen… it will, if President [Luis Filipe] Vieira allows me and if the fans want me to come back”
However Kia Joorabchian soon clarified Luiz’ desire to remain a Arsenal next year.
“He’s very happy at Arsenal,” Luiz’s agent told Sky Sports. “He has an extremely good relationship with both the coach and the sporting director. He has good relationships all throughout the club, right up to the owner. He respects everybody.
“These contract situations, these renewals, if he stays or if he goes… will all sort themselves out when we get back to some kind of ‘new’ normal [after coronavirus].
“David will sit down with Arsenal before the season begins, have his conversations and they will both decide if he will stay or not. That will come before the season starts. The chances are very high [of Luiz being at Arsenal next season].
“There is no desire to leave. But again, we are going to live in a ‘new’ normal, we will have to see what Arsenal’s position will be. But I believe there is a wish from both sides to continue.”
David Luiz made thirty-two appearances for the Gunners last season, he was vulnerable on multiple occasions yet remains one of the most experienced man in the squad.
The Brazilian has returned to training with the rest of the squad following the global pandemic enforced break. The Premier League resumes on June 17 as Arsenal are scheduled to visit Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.
