There is certainly no shortage of talent at Arsenal. But there is certainly a shortage of winning mentality. Maybe thats the reason why gunners are interested in Adrien Rabiot.
The French midfielder reportedly turned down a contract extension at PSG and is all but destined to end up at a big club with the likes of Barcelona, City, Liverpool and Arsenal all heavily linked with the 23 year old.
If you look at Arsenal’s midfield, it is young, talented and destined for glory. Be it the energetic Torreira or the ever influencing Guendouzi. Even Granit Xhaka has improved massively over past 6 months. With such quality and potential at their disposal, Why do Arsenal need Rabiot?
Well the truth is both Arsenal and Rabiot need one another. For Arsenal, its an opportunity to sign one of Europe’s best talent on a free transfer deal and for Rabiot, a chance to gain experience in one of Worlds toughest league. At 23, Rabiot is one of the most sort out talent. He has already won 16 major honours in France. But then winning League 1 shouldn’t even be counted as a major honour because of PSG’s rich spending is much more than what other nineteen clubs spend. Though if you discard the trophies, Rabiot played with some of worlds best players as well.
Neymar, Mbappe, Buffon, Ibrahimovic, Cavanni, Dani Alves, Maxwell, Veratti, Thiago Silva, Di Maria. These are just few of the rich talents Rabiot played with. And although you can count the honours, you can never count the experienced Rabiot might have gained.
Rabiot is very well aware that if he has to be remembered as one of the greats, he need to get out of France and try to prove himself in the English league.
Arsenal will surely call themselves lucky if they somehow get Rabiot at Emirates. Even though they have such great young talents, they just cannot reject a player of Rabiot’s quality and not to forget that he will come on a Bosman deal. And having played under Emery for two seasons, Rabiot and Arsenal are very much aware of each other.
Arsenal always had a rich history with French talents. Thiery Henry, Patrick Viera, Robert Pires, William Gallas, Oliver Giroud, Samir Nasri, Nicolas Anelka to name a few. And if history is to be followed, Adrien Rabiot can be the next French talent in line to make it big at Arsenal.
WHAT MAKES RABIOT SO VALUABLE?
At 6’2″, Rabiot is not an easy man to play against. Mixture of physical and technical ability – he can shield the ball and skip pass opponents as well. He possess incredible passing ability and those ‘forward passes’ are one of his greatest abilities and these reflects in his stats, as the Frenchman possesses 92.2% passing success in the League last season with average of 2.4 long balls per game.
Rabiot uses his physical advantage very well defensively, with record of 80 tackles, 45 interceptions and 33 clearances in all competitions last season. Though Rabiot is someone who contributes up ahead as well and thats exactly the type of player Unai Emery wants. Someone, comfortable in their defensive duties who helps the team offensively.
LIKELINESS?
I don’t think Arsenal will go for Adrien Rabioot, especially with the success of integration of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi in the team.
