Arsenal has finally sealed the deal to sign the promising Brazilian wing-wizard Marquinhos from São Paulo in a deal that is worth a lowly €3.5million.
The promising 19-year-old player is considered as another Edu’s masterclass, following the previous successful signing of Gabriel Martinelli from third-tier Brazilian club Itueno.
At almost the same age group as Martinelli when he signed for Arsenal, Marquinhos has already shown his huge potential on a few occasions with São Paulo’s first team. The teenage sensational winger has a lot of personality despite his age.
He scored on his senior debut away at Racing in the Libertadores. São Paulo has high hopes for the teenager and it’s understood that the club is unhappy to let him go for merely €3.5million, against their supposed valuation of at least €25million if it wasn’t for his contract running down.
WHAT TO KNOW
Marquinhos’ prime attributes are his dribbling, agility, acceleration, creativity, and technique. His primary positions are the right-wing while he’s also comfortable on the left-wing, and the second striker.
WHAT HE NEEDS TO IMPROVE ON
Despite Marquinhos’ immense talent, he needs to refine his finishing techniques. He’s got an incredible engine that could make him be at full blaze over the 90mins but going forward, in a technically better league like the EPL, he would need to learn the ‘la pausa’ technique.
His fellow countryman Martinelli, Smith Rowe, and Saka have all improved so much in that regard, controlling their rhythm and sprint instead of going all out from the first minute, which would untimely weigh them down.
ARSENAL’S TRANSFER PLAN
As per reports, Marquinhos’s signing will not affect the club’s summer transfer plan as the club’s hierarchy has already been rumoured to be at an advanced stage with most of their targets such as Leicester City’s Youri Tielesma, Bologna’s left-back Hickey, and Manchester City’s forward Gabriel Jesus.
