Arsenal have officially confirmed the departure of academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe, who will join Fulham on a permanent transfer.
The Cottagers will pay Arsenal £27 million upfront, with an additional £7 million in potential add-ons, making it a record fee for Fulham. Smith Rowe has signed a five-year contract with the West London side, with an option to extend for a further year. Fulham manager Marco Silva played a crucial role in persuading the midfielder to make the move to Craven Cottage.

HALE END TO PREMIER LEAGUE STAR
Smith Rowe’s journey at Arsenal began when he joined the club’s Hale End Academy at the age of 10 in 2010. He made his first-team debut in September 2018, coming on as a substitute in a UEFA Europa League match against Vorskla Poltava at just 18 years old. His development was furthered through loan spells at RB Leipzig and Huddersfield Town, where he gained valuable experience.
Upon returning from his loans, Smith Rowe found himself on the fringes of the Arsenal first team, but it wasn’t until the 2020-21 season that he truly broke into the starting XI. That season was his breakthrough, as he made 33 Premier League appearances and scored 10 goals, establishing himself as a key player under Mikel Arteta.
However, the subsequent seasons saw Smith Rowe struggle with fitness issues and increased competition for midfield spots, particularly following the arrivals of Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice. Over the past two seasons, he managed only three Premier League starts, a stark contrast to his earlier impact.
ARTETA’S FAREWELL
Arteta paid tribute to Smith Rowe’s contributions to the club, saying: “Emile’s commitment, attitude, and energy every day was first class, always stepping up when the team needed him. He came into the first team and was instrumental during a difficult moment for us. He created an important impression, with his strong performances making our supporters proud.
“I’m sad that Emile is leaving us, but excited for him to take this new opportunity at this stage of his career when he needs to be starting matches and playing regularly.
“Emile is loved by everyone at the club and leaves us with our gratitude, absolute respect, and best wishes. We all wish Emile and his family well at Fulham.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly progressing on a deal to sign Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino, who is expected to be Smith Rowe’s replacement. Everyone at Arsenal Core wishes Emile the very best of luck at Fulham.
