Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has stated that the North London giants should prepare for a mass exodus of players in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal suffered a 3-2 defeat against local London rivals Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday which dented their chances of firmly gripping a top-four spot.
Unai Emery’s debut season at the helm at Arsenal has gone quite well as the club is still in the hunt for a Champions League berth and also in the semifinals of the Europa League.
A few areas that Arsenal needs to address is their performances away from home and also their poor defensive department. The Spanish manager will not have a massive budget to spend on summer transfer acquisitions but Arsenal still has to make signings to bolster their squad.
According to former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour, the club needs to sell a few players that are not valuable to the unit.
While speaking on Alan’s Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former England midfielder said that the first season was never going to be easy for the 47-year-old Emery, “This was always going to be a big test for Emery this season. I said at the start of the season if they get anything better than fourth place it would be a brilliant season for Arsenal.”
Emery inherited a squad from the legendary predecessor Arsene Wenger and stated that there are players from the previous regime who may have to be at the exit door of the Emirates, “He’s still finding out his squad and the transfer window is going to be very interesting to see what he does, whether he moves any players out and brings more in. As much as Manchester United needs a big clear out, Arsenal probably does as well.”
