Arsenal are in the market for a new striker and have seen several big players being linked with them in the last month or so. To that tune, TBR Football has reported that the Gunners could be interested in a move for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson, with the player being linked with Premier League great Alan Shearer.
Within the report, journalist Ben Jacobs also provided his two cents on Arsenal’s pursuit of Ferguson. Speaking of the Seagulls’ situation ahead of the January window, Jacobs said,
“Brighton are still deciding whether to listen to offers for Evan Ferguson in January. Several suitors have already enquired and yet to receive clarity. Brighton’s focus is just to get Ferguson fit for now. Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham are among those alert to an opportunity. Arsenal unlikely to spend big on a number nine, but open to the possibility of a January addition under the right circumstances.”
He also mentioned that clubs are exploring options for a half-season loan deal but Brighton remain firm that they wish to insert an obligation to purchase in that case.
How would Evan Ferguson fit in at Arsenal?
Ferguson is a tall, powerful and aerially adept player who has shown promising signs in patches in the Premier League for Brighton so far. However, his potential is there for everyone to see, but the player has underperformed for the majority of his time at the Amex Stadium, owing to a severe lack of playing time.
Part of this is down to injuries, while the arrival of other players better suited to carry out the role of striker have arrived, pushing Evan Ferguson lower down the pecking order.
However, the Irishman is only 20 currently and has plenty of time ahead of him to make a name in the Premier League. His price-tag could be a deterrent for interested parties, though, with Brighton likely to hold out for an astronomical figure considering their player’s age and potential.

While he would be a great young asset for Arsenal to have in their ranks, his price-tag and lack of consistent output could stop the deal from materializing as the Gunners require a more reliable player up front.
