REISS NELSON INJURY LATEST: Reiss Nelson’s season with Fulham has faced a major stumbling block, with manager Marco Silva confirming that the player will be sidelined for the long term.

This will come as a major blow to Fulham as well as manager Silva as they prepare to enter a busy period in the footballing calendar. The Arsenal loanee has made a decent start to life at Craven Cottage before picking up the injury. He has made 13 appearances for the club across competitions and has also chipped-in with two goals and one assist.

A regular in Silva’s matchday squads, he will now miss up to 10 weeks of action, leaving the team short on options for the flanks. However, with the January window just a couple of weeks away, the Cottagers will have the option to enter the market for a temporary fix for their problem.

Despite his current injury being a problem for Fulham, the player’s lack of consistent game time ultimately affects his chances with parent club Arsenal. Nelson came through the youth ranks with the Gunners between 2008-17, regularly playing with age groups older than himself.

He made his first team breakthrough in 2017, but could not nail down a spot under Unai Emery. He was sent out on loan to TSG Hoffenheim in the 2018-19 season, followed by a spell with Feyenoord in the 2021-22 season. However, upon returning, Nelson still did not feature regularly under Mikel Arteta. As a result, he joined Fulham at the start of the ongoing campaign in search of more game time.

The Hale End graduate has made 90 senior appearances for Arsenal, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists as well. He will look to get back in shape and end the season well, hoping to make a place for himself in Arteta’s Arsenal squad.
