As Arsenal maintain a strong position in the Premier League, with a notable defensive record, plans are being made for January reinforcements. Nathaniel Brown, the Eintracht Frankfurt left-back, has emerged as a potential target for Mikel Arteta. His defensive skills and attacking capabilities were showcased during the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Reports from Germany indicate that Arsenal are closely watching Brown. A move could be made during the winter window, potentially leading to a transfer competition with Manchester City. The German-American full-back’s progress has been marked by steady development.

Born in Amberg, Bavaria, Nathaniel Brown developed his skills in the lower leagues before making an impact at 1. FC Nurnberg. His versatility as a full-back and left-sided centre-back stood out. During the 2022/23 season in the 2. Bundesliga, he played in 28 games and demonstrated his winning ability in duels.

Frankfurt signed him in January 2024 after their 2022 Europa League victory, and loaned him back to Nurnberg. Upon his return to Frankfurt for the 2024/25 campaign, Brown became a key part of the team. He made 32 Bundesliga appearances and contributed to several clean sheets. As a result, his contract was extended until June 2030.

Nathaniel Brown has also played on the international stage, earning 14 caps for Germany’s U21 team. He played every minute of Germany’s campaign at the 2025 UEFA Under-21 Championship, contributing an assist. His tactical awareness and attacking qualities have drawn comparisons to Alphonso Davies.

Arsenal’s interest in Brown is consistent with Mikel Arteta’s strategy of targeting young, versatile defenders. The Gunners have been tracking Brown since his U21 performances. Discussions are expected to begin before January. Frankfurt are likely to set a high price, potentially around €25–30 million.

With existing players providing options at left-back, Brown could offer valuable depth and tactical flexibility. His addition could also allow for strategic shifts within the defensive lineup, benefiting Arsenal in both the Premier League and Champions League.

While Mikel Arteta has stressed the importance of balance over major spending, the reported interest from Manchester City could prompt Arsenal to act decisively. The club will need to weigh their options carefully as the January window approaches.

Arsenal and Norway captain Martin Ødegaard has travelled to Oslo for his nation’s game against Israel despite his recent injury.

Ethan Nwaneri put in an excellent performance including two assists as England U21s beat Moldova 4-0 on Friday.

Arsenal have been handed a suspension following their FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester United last season.
