Arsenal are currently not considering a January move for Athletic Club striker Nico Williams, who was linked with the club this past summer.

As per reports from GiveMeSport, the Gunners are willing to cool their interest in the Spanish winger despite star man Bukayo Saka picking up a long-term injury and the squad short on players in wide areas.

Many fans and analysts had been urging manager Mikel Arteta and the board to enter the market to sign a marquee striker. However, those calls have now switched to demands for adequate cover on the wings, with Saka as well as loanee Raheem Sterling set to miss several weeks of action.

Their search previously brought them to Nico Williams, who played a starring role in Spain’s victory in Euro 2024, setting the tournament alight with his performances. However, he has had a rough start to the current season and has put up underwhelming numbers. In 23 games across competitions, he has scored two goals and provided seven assists.

Due to his slow start, Arsenal seem sceptical about a deal and are unwilling to shell out money for the player in the January window.

Williams not the only player Arsenal have distanced themselves from

Along with Nico Williams, it is natural a club of Arsenal’s stature would be linked with a host of wingers and attackers. As per reports, the north Londoners moved quickly to distance themselves from the ongoing Marcus Rashford saga, with the winger publicly claiming he is ‘ready for a new challenge’.

Now, they have moved quickly to distance themselves from Williams, who has faced a tough start to the season, and Arsenal probably are waiting to see how the player responds to the slump. Bringing the Spaniard would also mean being forced to play him on his preferred left flank, with Gabriel Martinelli likely to move to the right. However, this seems unlikely now.

Another player linked with the Gunners is Bournemouth wide man Antoine Semenyo, who would also bring with him plenty Premier League experience. Another direct runner, a powerful player and one who takes opponents on fearlessly, he could just be the answer for Arsenal’s woes.
