Arsenal have been in the market for a marquee striker signing but have had no luck in their multiple pursuits so far. They have had bids for Lois Openda rejected by RB Leipzig, been told Dusan Vlahovic is not for sale by Juventus, and have not received encouragement in their chase for Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
Now, Arsenal Fanatic News via their Patreon have reported that the Gunners could reignite interest in an old target as early as January. The report says that Mikel Arteta is still an admirer of Victor Osimhen and could be tempted to reignite interest in signing the Nigerian forward. The player is currently on loan from Napoli at Turkish side Galatasaray until the end of the season.
However, the report also adds that Osimhen’s agents have travelled to multiple clubs across Europe to offer them their client. Napoli could be asked to terminate the loan deal in such a case, but it remains to be seen how this saga pans out.
Could Osimhen be a good fit for Arsenal?
Victor Osimhen has been linked with Arsenal since the summer transfer window in 2022. The player’s performances and his quality have seen him rise to the top of world football in quick time as he has racked up the goals and assists in recent years.
While his rift with Napoli and manager Antonio Conte is a blip on the outset, the player still has a lot to give and is only 25 at the moment. A fairly tall, agile and explosive player, Osimhen is more than capable of leading the line by himself. He packs a powerful strike in either foot and is a prolific goal scorer, bagging goals at all his clubs.
He made a name for himself with Charleroi in Belgium, netting 20 goals and providing four assists in 36 appearances for them. He then joined Lille for one season, scoring 18 goals and assisting six. After that, he moved to Napoli and made 133 appearances for the club, scoring 76 goals and providing 18 assists.
It is clear that Osimhen is a player high on output and Arsenal do need a player of his calibre to lead the line. It remains to be seen what fee Napoli demand for their asset.
