Arsenal have announced the signing of their second transfer of the January transfer window, Jakub Kiwior.
The talented Polish centre-back plays his football for Serie A club Spezia. The 22-year-old watched on from the Emirates stands as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Manchester United 3-2 on Sunday, having already completed his medical and agreed terms on a four-and-a-half year contract.
Kiwior is held in high regard by the selling club. He is considered one of their best talents ever and the fact that they are selling him to Arsenal is almost considered a huge matter of pride.

Initially starting his career in Spezia as a defensive midfielder, the 22-year-old has found his home in central defence. That is likely where Mikel Arteta will want him to play here as well. However, if there is one thing about the Spanish tactician, he expects all his players to have the tactical flexibility to play in multiple positions. This is where Kiwior makes a lot of sense to Arsenal.
If the Polish defender is indeed worth all the hype that he is garnering, Arsenal are getting their hands on a serious player. At 22, he will be able to offer a lot to the team and provide competition to the likes of Saliba and Gabriel. Now that Ben White has permanently transitioned to a right-back role, we needed a new central defender. Let’s hope the Polish youngster is the answer to that.
