Arsenal turn attention to Blackburn Rovers teenager after Wright setback

Igor-Tyjon-Arsenal

Arsenal have reportedly shifted their attention to a Blackburn Rovers striker after missing out on a Salford City prospect. The Gunners are keen to strengthen their Hale End academy. Igor Tyjon has emerged as a leading target for Arsenal’s youth setup. He would bolster the club’s options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League 2 season.

Arsenal initially aimed to sign Will Wright, a 17-year-old from Salford. The Gunners had reportedly agreed a £200,000 fee plus add-ons. However, Liverpool secured the deal for the England youth international. As a result, Arsenal’s academy director Per Mertesacker and the scouting team had to quickly identify alternative targets.

Tyjon, also 17, is now viewed as a prime candidate for Arsenal. He joined Blackburn from Rochdale in July 2023. He has scored four goals in seven Premier League 2 appearances for Blackburn’s U21s. Tyjon has also featured twice for the senior side in the Championship. The England U17 international is known for his sharp finishing and pace.

Arsenal had shown interest in Tyjon earlier this summer. They tabled a £1 million bid plus add-ons in June. Blackburn rejected the offer, hoping for a higher fee. The Gunners have now reignited their pursuit, with a new bid potentially in the works. However, Arsenal face stiff competition from Manchester United and Manchester City.

Blackburn are determined to keep hold of their rising star. Tyjon has been fully integrated into first-team training. He also started in the club’s recent pre-season fixture. Rovers have offered Tyjon his first professional contract. However, the youngster is yet to commit to Blackburn.

Manager Valerien Ismael stated Igor Tyjon is part of the first-team squad. He added that it’s up to Igor Tyjon to show he’s ready. Despite Blackburn finishing just outside the Championship play-offs last season, financial pressures may force a sale. The Lancashire Telegraph suggests the club would consider selling if Arsenal meet their valuation.

Tyjon’s potential addition would align with Arsenal’s long-term strategy. They aim to invest in elite youth talent. Under Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker, the club has built a reputation for nurturing young stars. From Bukayo Saka to Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal continues to invest in youth.

The pursuit of Igor Tyjon highlights Arsenal’s commitment to developing young talent. Whether Arsenal can secure his signature remains to be seen. The competition from other clubs and Blackburn’s valuation will be key factors in the coming weeks.
