Arsenal are in the market for attacking reinforcements and have tried their level best to get a deal over the line before the Transfer Deadline Day on February 3. However, reports from journalist Ben Jacobs, the Gunners could turn their attention to Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, who has bagged 11 goals and five assists in 30 games this season.
Speaking on Curtis Shaw TV, Jacobs discussed Arsenal’s search for a new winger, and also revealed that Liverpool have shown signs of interest in acquiring the player. He said:
“Tel’s first position is left-winger and really Arsenal will be looking at Matheus Cunha and Nico Williams in the summer, and maybe even Jamie Gittens as well. On the right side they have urgency to find cover for the injured Saka, but even when he is fit they need more firepower on that right side.”
Gittens could provide the perfect cover for Bukayo Saka at all times, and could also play on the left side if Gabriel Martinelli is unavailable. However, he is still only 20 and has nearly a decade of his career ahead of him, meaning Dortmund will not part ways for cheap.
Jamie Gittens’ performances this season
Gittens has predominantly been deployed on the left flank for Borussia Dortmund this season, and has also played one game in attacking midfield. He has scored seven goals and assisted four more in 20 Bundesliga games so far, with goals against bigwigs like Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach as well.
Gittens also scored four goals in the Champions League, including a goal in the 5-2 defeat against Real Madrid earlier this season. Despite being of such a young age, the player has shown incredible promise and has developed into one of the most sought-after wingers in European football.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal take the leap and make a move for him.
