Arsenal Women are all set to promote interim manager Renee Slegers to the full-time role following an impressive unbeaten run in the early stages of her career at the helm.

As per reports from Arsenal Fanatics News on Pateron, Slegers, who worked as assistant coach earlier, has impressed the club’s hierarchy with a series of encouraging results in November and December, earning her the main job.

Slegers initially joined the Gunners in September 2023 as former head coach Jonas Eidevall’s assistant, serving in that capacity for just over a year until October 2024. Eidevall was dismissed and Slegers assumed the role of interim manager. Since taking charge, she has overseen 11 games, with the team securing an impressive 10 wins and one draw. They have scored an eye-watering 31 goals in that time and conceded just five, keeping seven clean sheets as well.

This run has seen Arsenal Women close the gap to the top of the Women’s Super League as they continue their ascent up the table. The team also sits comfortably atop Group C in the Women’s Champions League with 15 points from 6 games, thanks to a crucial 3-2 win against second-placed Bayern Munich in their last outing.

Born in 1989, Slegers came through the ranks at SSE between 1997-2006, and also spent one year during her younger years at Arsenal, representing the club at youth levels between 2006-07. She then spent her playing career with Willem, Djurgardens IF and Linkopings FC, being active for nearly a decade between 2007-16. She also made over 50 appearances for the Dutch national team and was a key player.

Two years after her playing career ended in 2016, Slegers began her coaching career with IF Limhamn Bunkeflo’s U19 side in the 2018 season and was promoted to the head coach role in November that year. She coached the Sweden U23s in 2021, followed by a two-year stint with FC Rosengard B as their manager.
