Arsenal could look at ex-Real Madrid man to bolster right-wing

When Bukayo Saka suffered an injury that is said to keep him out for a significant period of time, Arsenal fans could have been forgiven for worrying about the effectiveness of replacement on the right wing.

The natural candidates for this position might have been Raheem Sterling if he was fit and maybe Gabriel Jesus. However, Mikel Arteta showed immense courage to make young Ethan Nwaneri a starter.

It is safe to say that the Arsenal academy graduate has hardly put a foot wrong in the two games with him even getting on the score sheet against Brighton last weekend. Despite his emergence, the club continues to be linked with a right winger.

Considering that Saka should become indispensable once he returns from injury, if Arsenal were signing someone, he would have to be versatile enough to play in a number of positions in attack and maybe even midfield.

It has now emerged that Arsenal along with Aston Villa and Newcastle United are interested in signing former Real Madrid star Marco Asensio who is now at PSG. The Spaniard was once touted to become a superstar but his career has never been the same since an ACL injury that he suffered.

Not a regular starter under Luis Enrique the season, the Spaniard might be keen on a new challenge, and Arsenal and the Premier League could give him fresh start.

That said, if Asensio wants to be a regular starter, Arsenal might not be his preferred destination. Instead, he might look at Newcastle United, who still don’t have a first-choice right winger.

Arsenal themselves would be better off trusting Nwaneri and using the likes of Sterling once he returns for backup. Signing a player might not be the right solution, and let’s wait and see how the club goes about it.
